For El Panda, we wanted to create a nice adversary for Tequila…but it was crucial that it didn’t feel like we were doing another character that had the same vibe as Tequila. As usual, El Panda started off as an amazing sketch by Gobi. It was actually the sketch of El Panda that convinced me that I HAD to focus all of my time and energy into Muttpop.

Where Tequila was rippling with muscles and anger, El Panda was defiantly calm and chubby. I loved how El Panda carried a sense of strength while being chubby…that was an aspect of the character that we very difficult to carry  through in the final sculpt. But with some work and communication Monster5 was able to nail it.

I’ll be the first to admit that we went a little nuts with the colorways. Our factory was getting very expensive and the only way we could make figures in the price range that we wanted was to create more figures. We decided that we’d use this hindrance to our advantage by creating a variety of colorways to, hopefully, figure out what color applications will work best for future iterations of our characters.
